Yancy Medeiros took on Russian Sambo sensation Rustam Khabilov at UFC 159. Would the man known for the suplex (Khabilov) continue to prove Combat Sambo's worth?
Keep reading to find out.
The two traded right hands in spots early on. Lots of stand up movement by both competitors. And as the round went on, Khabilov caught a kick, taking his opponent to the canvas. A near suplex was executed by the Russian, though Medeiros was able to keep from going over completely. Unfortunately, during the scramble Medeiros's thumb was dislocated. Therefore, the doctor called a stoppage to the bout.
Right after the Villante bout- bad luck, huh?
Rustam Khabilov defeats Yancy Medeiros by TKO at 2:32 of round one.

Matt Serra MMA product Gian Villante took on Ovince St. Preux in one of the preliminary fights at UFC 159. Would the former Tennessee football player (St. Preux) prove too athletic? Or would we once again find that athleticism was only a small part of the story in mixed martial arts?
Get ready, get set, go!
Early on, Villante landed a hard low kick. St. Preux returned the favor after grazing with a high kick. Then St. Preux threw a kick which Villante caught, pressing his opponent into the cage. The Long Island product lifted St. Preux's leg high in the air, only to be thwarted by his opponent holding the cage (which is illegal). The two separated. Soon after, the former Tennessee football start hit home with a mild left hand. Villante connected with a low kick. Grazing punches by St. Preux. St. Preux then came forward aggressively, landing multiple punches which seemed to dizzy his adversary. The two clinched along the cage wall. After a knee from St. Preux, they separated. The rest of the round was pretty uneventful and even, leaving me feeling as if St. Preux clearly took the first stanza.
Early in round two, Villante landed a hard low kick that momentarily dropped his adversary. He connected low again an instant later. St. Preux connected with a hard body kick. And the story on the round was generally this- Villante connected with low kick after low kick on a rather fatigued looking opponent. Due to this, the former football player often looked off balance. Still, St. Preux used his hands better than his adversary, connecting with multiple punches. In the end, I'd give this round to Villante.
The bottom line is that St. Preux connected with an eye poke on Villante early in round three, which caused him to say that he couldn't see. Since the referee apparently did not see the poke, he stopped the fight rather than give Villante a break to regain his senses.
Ovince St. Preux defeats Gian Villante by majority technical decision after 33 seconds in round three.

Olympic Silver Medalist Sara McMann took on Sheila Gaff in one of the preliminary bouts at UFC 159. Would her wrestling skills come through once again? Or would Gaff prove to be too much.
Get ready, get set, go!
Early on, McMann took advantage of Gaff's aggressive forward motion, dropping a level and taking her opponent down with a double leg. And that's where they stayed until the two minute mark when the referee stood the two up for a lack of action (McMann only implemented mild ground and pound the whole time). As soon as the they were stood up, Gaff landed several hard knees in the clinch. That said, McMann took her adversary down again, took side control with the crucifix position, and started raining down left hands without answer until such time as the referee stepped in.
Not too exciting until the end. Still, it was an impressive show of wrestling dominance.
Sara McMann defeats Sheila Gaff by TKO at 4:06 of round one.

Coming into this fight between Phil Davis and Vinny Magalhaes, there was no shortage of talking either. We won't give you too much of the background here- follow the link for more- but rather will just tell you what Magalhaes had to say about Davis in a Bloody Elbow interview: "I'm not gonna disagree with him, that I'm being a troll on Twitter, because I got what I wanted, I got the fight. As far as how the fight is gonna go, I'm gonna get what I want there, too. It's gonna be a win for me. What is he gonna do? Outwrestle me? That's all he can do. His striking is horrible. His ground game is horrible. All the guys he's submitted don't have any ground game, so I don't know why he thinks that he can submit me.....(read more on fight night)"

Get ready, get set, go!
Early on, Brown landed a light low kick. Nice right elbow by Mein. The two traded punches, with Brown hitting home with one more than his adversary. Brown landed a solid right-left combination. The Immortal is coming forward very aggressively, pushing Mein around and nailing him with hard punches. Hard left hand by Mein. Mein hit home with a solid low kick. Solid left hook from Brown, who is clearly winning the aggressiveness and power punching battle. Brown then came forward aggressively, landing a hard right hand. The two traded some huge shots. Brown gained the clinch soon after and connected with multiple knees. Mein countered with a right- left combination, followed by two uppercuts, including one to the body that floored his opponent. The former Strikeforce fighter then attempted to sink in a standing guillotine, which he took to the floor. Brown got out but ate some big time ground and pound from his opponent along the way. However, Brown then sunk in a triangle choke attempt. Mein, after some time, powered out, leading to him deciding to stand up. Then Brown came forward with the relentlessness we've all become accustomed to, landing some huge knees, punches, and more.
Then came the bell. A great round! Give it to Brown, based on everything but the knockdown and ground and pound.
Nice straight right by Brown to start off round two. Then came another from The Immortal. He then came inside hard, landing some knees, looking for the standing choke, and then following his opponent to the canvas. Mein really started to bleed, seemingly from the nose, as Brown smashed away at him. I think Mein is done. And after a few elbows to Mein's body, the referee agreed.
Matt Brown defeats Jordan Mein by TKO at 1:00 of round two. Brown fights with amazing heart.

The world was stunned on Monday when two bombs were detonated during the Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring more than 150 people. The now infamous alleged perpetrators are identified as two brothers, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, both of whom were reportedly born in Chechnya. On Thursday night after the siblings robbed a 7-11 in Cambridge, Mass., Tamerlan, the older brother, was shot during an intense fire fight with police and killed. Unfortunately, an MIT police officer was shot and killed and another officer was placed in critical condition during the fight.
As authorities and the media attempt to uncover more information about the two, it has been reported that the older deceased brother, Tamerlan, trained as a boxer for Lowell Boxing. A 2010 photo blog called Will Box for Passport, by Johannes Hirn, depicts Tsarnaev training at Wai Kru, a known fighting gym.
According to the New York Daily News, Tamerlan won the New England Golden Gloves in 2009 in the open heavyweight division (201 pounds) and went on to fight in the national Golden Gloves tournament in Salt Lake City.
Here's hoping they find the younger brother, Dzhokhar, who is still on the run soon.
